Running a villa near Florence.
A house near Florence is usually booked by people who also want the city: a morning at the Uffizi, then dinner back at the villa. Transfers, drivers and clear directions from the station or the airport are among the first things they ask about.
City and country
Guests come and go more than in deep countryside. Check-in times, parking and a driver for the evenings in town all need sorting out before they arrive.
Historic gardens
The old villas around Florence have lemon pots, gravel paths, box hedges and olive groves. They need a gardener who knows them and a plan agreed for each season.
Newer houses too
Not every house here is old. Villa Aurora is contemporary, with a natural pool and a hot tub, and those need their own care routine.

Every house has its own checklists. Cleaning, laundry, pool and garden are done by local people we know and check, and every visit ends with a photo report. Spending above the amount we agree with you waits for your approval.

The area
What to do around Florence.
Olive groves and vineyards come almost to the edge of the city. South-west of Florence is the Valdelsa, with Certaldo and San Gimignano; to the south are the Chianti hills of Impruneta and Greve.
Florence
The Uffizi, the cathedral, the workshops of the Oltrarno. From Certaldo it is about 45 minutes by car, or a direct train.
Certaldo Alto
The walled upper town of Certaldo, reached by a small funicular. Boccaccio lived here and is buried in the church of Santi Jacopo e Filippo.
The Medici villas
Twelve Medici villas and two gardens around Florence are on the UNESCO list, among them Poggio a Caiano and the Boboli Gardens.
San Gimignano
The hill town of towers is 25 minutes from Villa Aurora, and quieter early in the morning or after the day visitors leave.
At the table
Bistecca alla fiorentina, ribollita, schiacciata from the bakery, and the wines of the Chianti Colli Fiorentini. Certaldo has its own red onion, which appears on the town's coat of arms.
Getting here
Florence airport is 20 to 40 minutes from most houses around the city and about 50 minutes from Certaldo. Pisa airport is about 1 hour 15. Fast trains stop at Firenze Santa Maria Novella, and Certaldo has its own station on the line between Empoli and Siena.

About 45 minutes by car, and about 50 minutes from Florence airport. Siena is about 50 minutes in the other direction.
