Pieve di Ponsano, a medieval church in the hills near Volterra.

Pieve di Ponsano is a medieval parish church and its farmhouse, on a hilltop between Volterra and Casole d'Elsa. It stands at the edge of the Berignone nature reserve, with views over the Val d'Elsa and the Val di Cecina. Two friends who work in lighting restored it: the stone walls, the beams and the arched windows are the original ones, and the lights in the rooms, the cellar and the garden were designed as part of the project.

The house sleeps 8 guests in four bedrooms, with five bathrooms. The living room is the nave of the church. Upstairs there is a sitting room with a fireplace, and the old sacristy is a quiet room with a music system. The kitchen has a professional range and a wood-fired oven, and the wine cellar is built inside an old round well, under a brick dome.

Outside, the 18 m heated infinity pool faces the valley. There is a sauna in a stone outbuilding, a bocce court, a table-tennis table, a vegetable garden and a wooden deck built around an old oak. Dinners outside are at the long table under the pergola, next to the house.

Pieve di Ponsano is rented to one group at a time, from April to October, as a house on its own or with a private chef and cleaning included. Volterra is 19 km away, San Gimignano 23 km and Siena 48 km.
